Misconduct On The Part Of Individual Fitness Trainers Has Somehow Turned Into An Attack Against Fitness Trainer Certifying Agencies
Legitimate concerns stemming from misconduct on the part of individual fitness trainers has somehow turned into an attack against fitness trainer certifying agencies. While this attention is misdirected, it is true that certifying agencies are being expected to address the issue. The conduct of the individual trainer and his or her interaction with the public often times has little if anything to do with the credential the trainer has acquired. The unsolved problem therefore is, "How do you control the conduct and public safety compliance of tens of thousands of fitness trainers?" Individual certifying agencies alone can't do it. Small groups of concerned and well-intentioned certifying agencies even with powerful influence can't do it. Even a professional accreditation process for certifying agencies will not resolve this issue. With no answers in sight, government involvement is all but certain since public safety is in question.
Ethics & Safety Compliance Standards (ESCS) Chairman, Ron Clark, however, disagrees. He believes there is a universal and easily applied solution that will satisfy all parties concerned; most importantly, the government and the public. Certifying agencies simply need to come together and agree on a newly implemented and enforceable standard concerning industry-wide ethics and safety compliance through ESCS How it works www.escs.info
The trainer in compliance with easily attainable ESCS will be licensed to display the universal "Ethics & Safety Compliance Standards" seal, providing that trainer a greater degree of public trust and confidence. It is intended for this "Trademark" to become the fitness training industry's "Good Housekeeping Seal". It is encouraged that certifying agencies endorse this effort. Trainers licensed to display the seal will be required to adhere to a strict enforceable protocol concerning safety in pre-exercise screenings and required conformance to a uniform code-of-conduct. In turn, these trainers will stand head and shoulders above the rest who are not in compliance, becoming more marketable, and will ultimately apply great pressure on ALL fitness trainers to comply for this valued industry endorsement.
How can ESCS enforce trainer safety and conduct compliance? Incorporated directly into the publicly displayed "Ethics & Safety Compliance Standards" seal, is www.escs.info. The general public, potential or current employers, prospective or existing clients, and all others considering this trainer, can easily log on and check the ESCS compliance database, as well as review the trainer's ESCS requirements to determine compliance in a particular trainer/client relationship. Trainer misconduct can then be reported for Seal licensing abuse and suspension consideration. Upon receipt of a complaint, an "ESCS Suspension Committee" will be randomly appointed from the ESCS compliance database. These peer trainers, possessing a variety of certification credentials, will make the final licensing suspension consideration. In addition, findings will be forwarded to the appropriate certifying agency for its consideration. Amazingly enough then, through ESCS efforts, those who need protection the most, can very easily and effectively protect themselves by conveniently reviewing trainer requirements and reporting trainer violations as a direct result of ESCS Seal display!
With ESCS endorsement and required trainer adherence on the part of certifying agencies, fitness training will be a more respected profession, the public will be provided with the best possible safeguard concerning fitness instruction, and consequently the government will have been shown that this industry can regulate and police itself. All of this can be easily achieved and set into motion immediately with ESCS already in place and willing to administer the standards with no required certifying agency effort.
